Selectic uses artificial intelligence services from OpenAI to power search recommendations and movie/TV show comparisons. When you use these features:
These providers process your data solely to generate responses and do not use it for their own model training. We do not share your name, email, or account details with these services — only the search queries, title information, and taste preferences necessary to generate recommendations.
Selectic retrieves movie and TV show information (titles, ratings, posters, cast, streaming availability) from third-party metadata providers. Your search queries and browsing activity may be sent to these services to retrieve relevant results. These providers process requests according to their own privacy policies.
Your display name, profile avatar, and public profile information are visible to other Selectic users. Comparisons you share via link are visible to anyone with the link.
We review reported content (display names and avatars flagged by other users) and may remove or reset content that violates our Terms of Service. If your content is reported and found to violate our terms, we may reset your avatar, display name, or both without prior notice.
Reports are stored with the reporter's identity, the reported user's identity, the reason for the report, and any additional details provided. This information is used solely for moderation purposes and is not shared with other users.
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in and to understand how you use the service. We use a third-party analytics service to collect anonymized usage data (pages visited, session duration, device type). You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work properly without them.
We use third-party providers for: hosting, analytics, email delivery, SMS delivery, push notifications, AI processing, file storage, movie metadata, and other operational needs. These providers are contractually required to protect your data to the same standard described in this policy and may not use your data for their own purposes. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. We use cloud infrastructure providers that comply with SOC 2 standards.

Selectic does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Children under 13 may use Selectic only under the supervision of a parent or guardian. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that their child has provided us with personal information without their consent, please contact us and we will delete the information promptly.
Before creating an account, you are asked to explicitly consent to your search queries and comparison data being sent to OpenAI for processing as described in Section 3. This consent is required to use the service. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data, taste profile, comparison history, and voting data are permanently deleted within 30 days. Anonymized analytics data may be retained for longer.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
